Color Match Game
The big kids had a snow day today, but Baby Bear was still having learning time in the living room. We have been working on her colors lately, and she loves pointing at things and telling us what colors she thinks they are, but she doesn't have them all down. So we came up with a color game to help her learn.
To recreate this game at home, all you need are some clear plastic cups, strips of construction paper, colored cotton balls, tape and child-sized tongs. I keep our cotton balls in a resealable container, juyst so that we can pretend we are organized.
The set up is really very simple. Tape one construction paper strip around each cup. Make sure you have colored cotton balls that coordinate with the strips you are using. We use five balls of each color.
Line up the cups and spread the cotton balls out on the table. Have your toddler pick up the cotton balls with the tong and put them into the matching color. The tongs help improve fine motor skills. Your child can either find the color you tell her to, tell you what color she is picking up, or count how many cotton balls she puts into her cup. It all depends on how you want to do it.
My little bear tends to be a bit over-dramatic and thinks moving cotton balls is exhausting. Notice that she is smiling though. She wouldn't let me put it all away though. We actually had to do it twice more, before she wanted to cuddle and watch Paw Patrol.
I am going to try to share some of our other toddler learning ideas with you in the future. Let me know what your child enjoys and how you make them work in your home.
Have fun.
