Alice in Wonderland Paper Medallions
My love for Alice in Wonderland has been passed on to my daughters. The middle one, K, actually dressed up as the mad hatter last year for Halloween. This year, she wants to host a "Very Merry Un-Birthday" party.
I am in full support of this event. We will be preparing for our party with decorations, food planning and craft ideas, all of which I am happy to share with you. First up, paper medallions to decorate the wall with.
I bought a book of 12"x12" scrap book paper from Hobby Lobby. They have a 40% off coupon on their site every week, that helps make things a little cheaper. This is the paper we picked out.
Then I went onto Amazon and ordered six classic Alice in Wonderland buttons. I love the Disney version of the story and bright colors, but these just feel more grown up and appropriate for a teenage tea party.
These two items, a hot glue gun, some glue sticks and ruler are all we need to make the paper medallions.
- First choose your paper from the book.
- With a ruler, measure 1/2"from the bottom and then score a line across the paper.
- Now fold the paper along the scored line.
- Repeat this process every half inch, as if you are making a paper fan, scoring and folding each half inch in the opposite direction.
- Once you have made all the folds, use the ruler to make four, 3" sections of the paper, and draw lines so you know where to cut. Then cut the paper.
- Now you have 4 sections of "fan. Glue each section together, no showing edge to no showing edge, making a long chain.
- Now carefully, using the table as a backrest, fold the chain into a circle and glue it together.
- Next, cut a circle out of another piece of paper, and glue it on the center of the back, to give your medallion a little extra support.
- Finally, glue one of the buttons to the center of your medallion.
Voila! One lovely paper medallion. Repeat this process with another piece of paper for each button that you have. Then arrange them on the wall.
Isn't that pretty? Wouldn't you want to have tea and look at that?
I can't wait to see how yours turn out.
